  CTU Prague is one of the oldest universities of this type in Europe (established 1707).
The number of students is close to 20, 000. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (part of it is Computer graphics group) was established 1964. The department is active both in education (HW, SW) and in research of various kinds.
The Computer Graphics Group at Czech Technical University performs research in the field of virtual reality, visualization, rendering, multimedia and user interfaces. This research has been performed in the framework of various European and national projects.
Besides research the Computer Graphics Group is involved in teaching - it offers nearly 20 special courses in Computer Graphics for graduate and postgraduate study. The group is the largest group of its kind in the country.

One of recent topics the group is involved in is theory and practice of user interfaces design and development. The activities are focused of special interfaces (in web environment, multimedia based interfaces for handicapped users etc). The second research group that will participate in the project is Telematics group that deals with elearning issues. There have been several national and international (mostly EU funded) projects in this area. Another type of activity includes life-long education - in this particular case education of seniors.

Research in the past that will support activities in the framework of the project includes Computer supported collaborative work. In the field of computer supported collaborative work (CSCW) there is a long research history.

The main emphasis is put on following three areas:
- Videoconferencing and distant learning
- Collaborative editing systems
- Distant learning using Virtual reality - Collaborative Virtual Environment
