Computer and Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences – MTA SZTAKI – is the largest scientific research institute in Hungary. The institute was established in 1968. Present staff consists of about 300 employees and 6 Institute fellows are members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The EU granted the prestigious title of Centre-of-Excellence to SZTAKI in the field of Information Technology and Automation.

SZTAKI has a relevant role in international scientific and economic organisations, such as ERCIM and eLIG.

The eLearning Department is a young division with fast growth and success in the field of eLearning Content Management Systems, eLearning Applications, mobile solutions, and multimedia systems. They organize the prestigious annual eLearning Forum in Hungary.

The Department participates in EU research projects that involve adaptive eLearning systems of video-based courseware. As the expert of courseware portability and eLearning standards the Department participates in the work of a number of Hungarian and international organizations and committees.

Its dynamically developing product "SZTAKI SCORM eLibrary" is a widely used courseware database. The Department has developed a SCORM compatible standard courseware portfolio, and it has implemented customized courseware development in the framework of a number of Hungarian and international projects. The Department is the member of the Hungarian Mobile Innovation Center, we are developing mLearning solutions.

MTA SZTAKI eLearning Department has been participating several international eLearning projects: e.g. LEONARDO projects:
