SIIT is in charge for Information and telecommunication technologies and systems development.
In an attempt to solve the problems of the information society development effectively and speedily, the State Institute of Information Technology has modified its structure and expanded its activities in response to the changing demands of the Lithuanian and global markets. |
The main areas of specialization are information technologies (IT) and telecommunications (T).
In the broad space of these areas, stresses are on the directions that are most important for the society:
- information society and its constituents (e-economics, e-commerce, e-education etc.);
- IT nuclear safety (specific highest security and reliability systems);
- IT fiscal security;
- ensuring ITT security;
-IT process management;
-departmental high-reliability telecommunications.
The scope of the Institute’s work encompasses the entire life cycle of a system, which consists of the following main states of the cycle: systemic analysis, consulting, designing, integration, implementation, evaluation, certification, accreditation, modernization, service and customer training.
| SIIT specializes in areas of information technologies and telecommunications. Institute conducts applied investigations, designs and integrates computerized plant information systems and process control systems, designs telecommunication networks, distributed data bases, creates programs, data bases control systems, creates user interfaces using up-to-date means. |

The main areas, in which are reached highest results:
- Telecommunication systems, process control and safety systems analysis and technology development, particularly oriented to high reliability, safety and security required areas, including fiscal, nuclear and ITT safety, e-learning;
- Computers and networks architecture analysis with the purpose of designing high level Human-Machine interface according to “Design for All” principle and also of providing access to internet for people with disabilities, according to requirements.
- Experience in e-learning field State Institute of Information Technologies carries out research projects in fields of e-tutoring systems.
The background of this research is to analyze the structure of intelligent tutoring systems as well as the influence of using them in learning progress.
Also the research is aiming at reviewing the technologies, which could be used for the training of e-tutors, in order to achieve better productivity of learning and thereby realize full accessibility of these systems.
Our specialists S. Sidaras, A. Juozapavicius prepared some e-learning material for the Baltic area.
See Virtual Campus.
SIIT has experience in e-learning environment adaptation for people with disabilities. SIIT prepared “Guidelines preparation for information environment, used for education and adaptation for disabled people”.
