Development of Satellite and Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Systems

The study "Development of Satellite and Terrestrial Digital Broadcasting Systems and Services and Implications for Education and Training" covers issues that will need to be addressed by all  organisations involved in education and training concerning the developments of satellite, terrestrial and cable digital broadcasting systems and services.

The main focus of the study is on the development of interactive TV learning services to the home via low cost STB. The impact of THE PROJECT will be achieved as follows:

> By developing technology for t-learning through iDTV process ELU promotes a large vision of learning services with new pedagogical approaches, immersive learning environments and deliver new usages to the end learner with high impact on, societal challenges.

> By offering new services on the TV channel and therefore reinforcing competitiveness within the different service providers.

> By increasing the number of people who learn at home using the convenient of the sitting in front of the TV.

> By adding a new element in the consideration of Government (mainly in NMS) of the DVB-T deployment.

> By the impact on the partners future activities using the new technologies.

The project addresses directly the needs of the end-users in 3 ways :

1 - The need for this project and its developments has been driven by schools (ORT worldwide school network and universities, schools provided with the support of new entrance member state partners).

2 - Those end-users are partners in the project and will test and evaluate the effectiveness of the solutions throughout the project lifetime in multicultural environments.

3 - Through the demonstration and dissemination activities the exploitation model will be validated and revised in close consultation with the stakeholders in the project including the schools in the participating partner countries.

To ensure exploitation and effective take-up of the results, high quality multilingual content using the full functionality of the project, in line with national curricula, will be developed in the project so that the technology and services developed can be immediately used by schools and learners.

Developing a media of rich learning environment designed specifically to enhance the development of technological fluency at after school centres in economically disadvantaged communities.

We can expect that the use of new learning environment will serve as model for other after school centres in economically disadvantaged group, demonstrating how informal learning settings can support the development of technological fluency.

ELU aims at :

- Strengthening social cohesion by providing efficient, intelligent and easy to use systems for learning and for strengthening cultural heritage

- Solving "trust and confidence" problems so as to improve dependability of technologies, infrastructures and applications.

ELU aims through its personalised learning approach to:

- Raise the performance level of students leaving school,

- Better prepare them for professional life that is more and more IT dependant,

- Enable the future employees to be more autonomous in work by giving more responsibility in learning,

- Provide parents with access to the learning system so that they can get involved in the whole learning process to raise their awareness.
